When it comes to what to wear to your brand session, the MOST stressful part is usually putting together the right outfit! Trust me, I get it! You’re being immortalized in a photo, you want to make sure you look GREAT!
I provide all of my branding photography clients with a fully customized branding outfit inspo board. The way we achieve that is by working one on one via Pinterest! I take any styles, designs, or accessories that you’ve pinned and I translate that into outfit ideas that fit your brand!
Here’s an example of a recent planning guide with outfit inspiration!
Need some quick tips on what to wear to your brand session while you’re here?
First, let’s start with the MOST IMPORTANT rules for your outfits!
Wear what you would normally wear on your BEST day. We’re not reinventing the wheel here. No need to go crazy, until we accessorize, but more on that later!
Be comfortable. We want you FEELING your best because then you’ll LOOK your best!
Dress for the job you have. I know, it goes against what we were taught, right? But your clients want to see YOU and get an idea of what it’s like to work with you through your branding imagery. If your clients are NEVER going to see you in a ball gown, leave it home and opt for those jeans girl!
Now that you know you don’t have to throw a million bucks into a new wardrobe that you’re never going to wear again, let’s dive in!! Here are my top tips for choosing what to wear to your brand session!
Start with your color pallet
Color says a lot about your brand. Before someone even realizes what you’re wearing, they’ll get a feel of your brand through your colors. Color plays a huge part in your brand experience! While you don’t have to dye your clothing to match your brand colors, you want to try and keep some of your pieces in the same color family. Is your brand muted and neutral? Maybe the hot pink shorts stay at home. Unless you dress them like Sammi on TikTok because then I’m all in! She’s an icon! Is your brand loud and bright? Then go ahead and add in those pops of color to your outfit or accessories!
Whatever your color pallet is, you don’t need to be a stickler for having those shades in every aspect of your outfit. Layer in your brand colors throughout your wardrobe pieces that fit the overall look.
Tailored and structured pieces are the best!
As a super curvaceous lady over here, sometimes I want to HIDE all that with flowy clothing. BUT TRUST ME! When it comes to photos, tailored clothing is the way to go. Wearing more tailored pieces will ultimately make you look leaner and taller!
Layer Your Pieces
I love layers. Not only are they visually appealing, but they also give you the option to create multiple looks with the same outfit! To get the most out of layering your pieces, try mixing in different textures to give your outfits even more appeal. Or, conversely, you can also add a little less texture by layering your outfit with a cozy cardigan or loose trench coat!
Accessorize
If you’re anything like me, you rarely accessorize! But accessorizing for your personal branding photoshoot is where you can go against your natural tendencies and push out of your box! Shoes, bags, hats, glasses, scarves, belts, jewelry! These are all things that will add more depth and interest to your photos, whether you normally wear them or not! I have a whole collection of jewelry that only sees the light of day for photos, it’s true!
A pair of earrings or a headband can add just enough to make your photos more polished!
When in doubt, stop.
There is NOTHING that will make you go crazy faster than overthinking your outfits! Chances are, you wear clothes every day. We can literally make any of those daily wear pieces work for you! Take these tips, use what you want, and when it comes down to it, just be you! I promise you’ve GOT THIS FRIEND!
